YANGON - IndustriALL is demanding the release of a garment worker and trade union official in Myanmar who was arrested after calling on a factory - which supplies Spanish fashion giant Zara - to raise wages by 38 US cents a day.

Fears are growing for the safety of Ma Thu Thu San, 28, a worker at the Hosheng Myanmar Garment Factory in Yangon, who has not been seen since she was seized by the junta which has run Myanmar since the coup of February 2021.

Inditex, which owns Zara, said the incident represented a severe breach of its supplier code of conduct and added that it was already taking steps to ensure that it no longer sourced from the company.
