SYDNEY - Leading Australian fashion retailers have been warned that they will face a mandatory levy on garment sales if they continue to fail to back a new voluntary scheme to tackle textile waste.

The Australian Fashion Council (AFC) has just launched Seamless which aims to raise AU$36 million (US$24m) each year through signatory contributions but so far only six of 30 companies approached have signed up.
