LONDON - The UK Fashion and Textile Association (UKFT) has linked up with key stakeholders to launch a £4 million (US$5m) project to develop and pilot an automated sorting and pre-processing system for textile waste.
Partners include Marks & Spencer, Tesco, Pangaia, Worn Again Technologies, English Fine Cottons, Reskinned, Textile Recycling International, the Textile Recycling Association and WRAP.
The two-year Autosort for Circular Textiles Demonstrator (ACT UK) project aims to replace the manual sorting of used clothes and textiles with a highly-automated process which can then be used as feedstock for recycling.
